A Couple that Runs Together, Stays Together

I am so proud of Jason for running his first half marathon (Bryce Canyon Half Marathon) with me earlier this month.  He trained hard and it totally paid off.  He finished strong and more importantly we finished together.  It was pretty amazing.

Our 18 year wedding anniversary is coming up and it got me thinking about how we do so many things together and enjoy lots of the same things too and I think this makes for a happy marriage, it really does!

When I started this “fitness journey” Jason was so supportive and understood that in order for it to work it had to be a lifestyle change.  He knew that eating healthy and exercising wasn’t just about me, but about the whole family.  He not only stood by me, he joined me.  We’ve been having so much fun running races and participating in obstacle course races together.  Not only is it better for our health, it’s been better for our marriage and our family life.  Having a spouse support you in following your dreams and cheering you on is so important!

Running is such a metaphor for marriage.  It’s about staying beside each other even if you know you can go faster, it’s knowing when to take the lead or slow down a bit.  Jason’s helped me up dozens of walls and obstacles, he’s literally carried me on his back, he’s encouraged me to not give up.  Jason has been to every race of mine either, cheering me on or running besides me.  No matter what life throws our way, I know we’ll be able to deal with it.  Together.  Our marriage is one big fun crazy adventure and I love it more and more each year.

What are some things you and your spouse do together to keep your marriage strong?

Bryce Canyon Half Marathon Recap | Race 10 of 14 for 2014

So, you all know how much I love my sister, right? It’s apparent.  She rocks.  She’s my bff, my biggest supports, she puts up with my craziness.  I could go on and on, but for today’s blog post we’re going to talk about how she became my super hero/lifesaver!  Here’s the story:

Jason and I, along with the kiddos, headed out to Bryce Canyon, UT early Friday morning.  My sister & nephew would be coming later that afternoon.  We took our time driving out there and stopped in St. George to have Chick-fil-a (YUMMM!!) We saw Dick’s Sporting Goods had a tent sale, so we walked around the tent full of running shoes for a bit but didn’t buy anything.  So, off we went.  We made it to Bryce Canyon around 2pm.  When we pulled over to one of the lookout points and were ready to walk a short trail, I go to the back of the car to grab our shoes.  You see, I packed the kids hiking shoes and my shoes in a separate bag and we just wore our flip flops for the trip.  It’s way easier to travel with kids in flip flops than in shoes that need to be laced up.  Well, alas, there was no bag.  I asked Jason if he put the bag in front with the kids, but I knew the answer….the man forgot to pack our shoe bag.  How was I going to run a half marathon in flip flops?!? I may have started to panic, but then I quickly thought to call my sister and see if they were near St. George.  It was about 2 hrs away and the closest town with a sporting goods store.  We had to drive a bit to get signal, but when I called and spoke to my nephew and he told me they were about to drive into St. George, I knew I’d be ok.  Big sister to the rescue.  Long story short, she found me some Saucony ProGrid Ride 5 sneakers on sale at Dick’s Sporting Goods store and grabbed some shoes for the kids at the Old Navy next door.  I was pretty nervous the rest of the day, but glad that I would at least have sneakers to run in for the half marathon.  When she arrived, I was so anxious to try on the shoes and even more relieved to see that they fit and were comfortable.

I had a rough time sleeping that night.  I was still anxious about running in new shoes in a brand I’d never used before.  What a way to break in your shoes, huh?!?  4am came way to quickly.  I felt like I was in a fog getting ready and drank some bad in-room coffee maker coffee to help wake me up.  I went through the motions, but just couldn’t get excited.  I was more nervous and scared than anything.  My super hero sister came to to our room to keep sleeping with our kiddos & we walked out of the room to catch the bus driving us up to the start line at 5am.  I really lucked out when booking our hotel room because the pick up was right across the street from where we were staying and the half marathon ran right in front of the hotel too!

Thanks to Jason for taking these pics of the starting line and during the first part of his run! I still can't manage to get myself to take pics during a race!
Thanks to Jason for taking these pics of the starting line and during the first part of his run! I still can’t manage to get myself to take pics during a race!

It was still pitch black as the bus drove us to the start line and I couldn’t help but think how crazy we all were sitting in this cold bus way too early in the morning, to go run downhill for 13.1 miles!  We managed to stay warm(ish) by standing next to one of the 4 or so bonfires that were set up at the start line.  A few runners made small talk with us, I ate my Larabar, had my Island Boost, and just waited to start feeling better.  Well, I can tell you that that didn’t happen until after mile 2.  At this point, Jason was running way ahead of me, I had told him it was ok and he took off!  After the first flat 2 miles, I found my groove and the road started to go downhill.  The scenery was beautiful and was really enjoy the downhill speed.  I was able to see Jason up ahead of me running with the 2:20 pacer but I didn’t try to catch up.  I was already running way faster than normal and I didn’t want to push myself too much so early in the race.  By mile 8 he started to slow down, so  I ran a little sprint and caught up to him.  We were running through the town so we slowed down to see my sister and the kiddos!  They were out there with their cow bells making noise and cheering us on in their PJs!  It was awesome to see them and it got me pumped up for the next 5 miles.  At this point, the downhill incline wasn’t as steep and I knew I was slowing down, but I was keeping a nice pace and feeling really good too.  Jason was also slowing down and I could tell that he was starting to struggle around mile 10 or so.  By mile 12, I was ready for it to be over!  I wanted to run faster, but Jason couldn’t go any faster than what he was already going so I stayed running by him.  I knew I was going to PR at this point and I remembered how crucial it was for me to have my cousin with me for my first half marathon and I wanted to do the same for the hubs…even if he did forget to pack my sneakers in the car!!! When we spotted the finish line, we did a mini-sprint to the finish line together and it felt great!  Our official time was 2:25:27:06!  Jason finished his first half marathon, I PRed by 9 minutes and couldn’t be happier!  The finish line had the regular post-race snacks of bagel pieces, orange slices, bananas, water, and chocolate milk.  We stayed around the finish line area,  walked around, stretched, enjoyed some free ice cream, and waited for my sister to pick us up.

All and all, the race was very well organized, we had no issues at all with packet pickup or at any point during the race.  There were plenty of water stations along the road and port-a-potties at about every mile (Woohoo to not having to use them, though!)  The scenery was lovely and the downhill course was just fantastic!  And, although I wouldn’t recommend trying a new running shoe on race day, the Sauconys worked out just fine!

Be sure to come back tomorrow to read and see pictures from the rest of our trip and our family time hiking through the Bryce Canyon hoodoos!

I loved running with my Swings! !! They added that extra little “umph” I needed!  I think I’ll be wearing them on my next race 🙂

Being Grateful for Friends and Family

We head off to Bryce Canyon tomorrow and, like I mentioned in my previous post, I’m really excited and hoping my knee doesn’t give me too much trouble on Saturday!  All my races, thus far, have been local and I’m looking forward to a bit of a change in scenery and for cooler weather.  Just really hoping it doesn’t rain on us 😉

This past Sunday, I had my last long run of 12 miles and I’ll admit it was a challenge.  The sun was starting to burn layers off my skin & my knees were aching, but I finished.  I didn’t give up, although I did consider it! Towards the end of the run, I reflected on all the support I’ve had throughout this journey and began to think of how lucky I am to have people who really care about me in my life.  Especially, my family!  Yes, I started crying on my run! Please tell me this has happened to you before or I’ll be super embarrassed…Yes, you have too?!? Ok, on with my post!

I am beyond grateful and appreciative to my husband for making my favorite post-run breakfast countless times.  In case you’re wondering, it’s sweet potato & bacon hash with eggs over medium and avocado!  I’m grateful that he’s joining me on this adventure and running races with me!  He’s never once complained about me going to the gym or when I go out for a run and he stays with the kiddos!  He’s always encouraging me and never doubts I can achieve my crazy goals, even when I do!  I love that about him.

I am grateful for my kiddos for embracing this active and healthy lifestyle.  They love talking about my races and going on runs with me.  I love that they are involved and get excited about running their own races.  I’ve never felt guilty about running or going to the gym because I know they appreciate it and it’s showing them that exercise is important and beneficial in our lives and that it can be fun!

I am grateful for my friends who have stuck with me in this crazy adventure!  My friends who’ve come to watch me run or even better that have come out and ran some races with me!  Thanks for trudging through the mud, running through bubbles, and jumping off planks with me! Woohoo!! My friends who have gladly watched my kiddos so Jason and I could run some trails or get some training at Camp Rhino!  To my friends who listen to me talk about Paleo and upcoming races: Thanks for pretending not to be too bored with me 😉

I am grateful for my parents who also support  me without end.  Without their support (read: they watch my kids most of the time) I wouldn’t be able to do so much of what I do. They’re on a 3 month trip now and we are totally missing them!!

Lastly, I am grateful for sister.  My #1 supporter, my BFF!  We’ve ran 5Ks together.  We’ve ran an obstacle course race together.  She was there to watch me run my first 5K and she’s been there for most of my other races too.  She’s the best race photographer and cheerleader!

When I signed up for this half marathon at Bryce Canyon, she said she was coming along too without being asked.  She just knew she’d be there for me and I couldn’t be more grateful to her for that.  I mean, who does that? Who says they’re going to take a 4 hr road trip to wake up at 6am to watch you run by for like 15 seconds? Only the best sister in the world, that’s who!

So really, I just want to say “Thanks” to all of you.  I couldn’t be here following these crazy dreams of mine without you. You all mean the world to me! xo

I’ll be off the blog scene for a few days, but I’ll be back on Tuesday to tell you all about the Bryce Canyon Half!  In the meantime, follow the fun on instagram @jessieemeric!

Last Week of Half Marathon Training

Just 4 more days until my second half marathon and the hub’s first!  I’m super excited about it and so proud of all his hard work with training.  Having both of us training for a half marathon at the same time had it’s challenges with scheduling and kiddos, but we’ve made it work and I can’t wait to get out there together.  I don’t think we’ve ran together this whole time we’ve been training, crazy huh?!?

I’ll definitely be taking it easy these next 4 days.  I did my last long run yesterday and my knees are bothering me.  I’ve been out of my glucosamine for about 2 weeks or so and I know my knees are missing it!  It’s also unusually humid for Vegas and I don’t think that’s helping either.  So, I’ll be resting, icing, and using some KT Tape on my knees until Saturday 😉

Not only am I looking forward to running the half marathon, I’m looking forward to getting away with my family for a few days and exploring Bryce Canyon together.  It’ll be a much needed getaway for us.  This summer has been crazy busy so far with year-round school, swimming lessons, basketball, and gymnastics, on top of working and training for the half marathon! Yup, much needed time away from Vegas and the daily grind!

Oh I almost forgot, I got a new Nathan hydration vest!  I’m loving it so far.  I never really loved my belt and had been considering a vest for awhile now. I ended up choosing the Nathan’s Intensity Hydration Vest for women and I just love how I have access to everything I’ll need at arms reach.  I plan to write a full review after the half marathon so stay tuned 😉

My Half Marathon Bucket List

This past July I came up with my fitness bucket list.  Basically, it’s got everything from running a half marathon to doing a pull up! I’ve made some progress and you can see my 6 month update HERE.  I’m starting to enjoy running more and more and with my 14 in 2014 race challenge, I think I’m hooked!  I keep seeing and hearing of all these fun races I’d love to do so I figured I should keep a list and what better place to keep it than on my blog 🙂

So, here are the top 5 half marathons (in no particular order) that I hope to do in the coming years:

  1. Napa to Sonoma Half – Running and wine, need I say more?!?
  2. Disney Princess Half Marathon – Disney puts on quite a few races throughout the year and they are all very popular.  I chose the Princess Half because it’s in Florida and I’m dying to take the kids back to Walt Disney World and because the race is all within the WDW property, as opposed to Disneyland, where parts are ran through the city of Anaheim.
  3.  Nike Women’s Half Marathon – They have a race in Washington DC and San Francisco, but I think I’d prefer San Francisco, just because it’s on the west coast and thereby more feasible for me to travel there.  Plus, you get an awesome Tiffany & Co. necklace at the finish!
  4. Surf City Half Marathon – I love Southern California and I think it’d be great to run along 13.1 miles of the Pacific Coast Highway!
  5. The Kaua’i Half Marathon – It’s been voted one of the top races to travel for!  Maybe you won’t even notice the distance or humidity among the beautiful scenery 😉

BONUS RACES:

  • Ragnar Relay – This is just one of those races that sounds like it could be a lot of fun to do with a group of friends and would really push you!
  • Paris to Versailles 16K – I just love Paris and being able to run here would be a dream!!

I’d love to hear what races are on your bucket list! Or what amazing races you’ve ran so far!

Let the Training Begin | Bryce Canyon Half Marathon

This is the week.  Week 1 of 12 weeks of half marathon training. There will be lots and lots of running in my future.  I’m excited to try Hal Higdon’s Intermediate Half Marathon Training Schedule.  I used his Novice Schedule for the Rock N Roll Half Marathon (my first half) and I think it went well.  The training was totally do-able and hey, I finished the race, right?  I decided on the intermediate schedule because I really want to work on my speed.  I’d like to be a faster runner.  I don’t have grandiose ideas of finishing in 1:30 or anything!  My first half marathon this past November was with a time of 2:34.  I wanted to finish in 2:30, but I was totally fine with my time.  This year, I’d like to reach that 2:30 time or even beat it!  I feel confident that I can do this mostly because the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon is mostly a downhill race 😉

What’s extra special about the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon & it’s training is that I’ll be running it alongside the hubs!  Although he’s done some 10Ks, 5Ks, and of Tough Mudder with me, this will be his first half marathon!  I couldn’t be more excited for him and for our upcoming 12 weeks of training.  Logistically speaking, we won’t be training “together” but we’ll be able to push each other and hold ourselves accountable.  Plus, there’s always that little bit of love & competitiveness that really pushes us to be the best we can and give it our al!

What’s your favorite half marathon training program?  Have you ever ran a race with your spouse? Did you love it or hate it?

Take Control | Don’t Give up

So, who signs up for a half marathon and celebrates by eating a donut?!? This girl, that’s who!  I just had to get that off my chest, it’s not really what this blog post is about.  Ok, so moving on…

It’s been a stressful week at home, mostly just stressing over work stuff.  Lame, I know, but hey, I’ve got kids to feed! Maybe I’m being a bit dramatic but the point is I’ve been stressed out.  I skipped my training session on Tuesday and I almost skipped going today too.  Why? Because yesterday was a bad day and I woke up still feeling in a funk.  I just wanted to stay in my PJs all day and do nothing.  But, I started to feel bad, remember I missed Tuesday, so I put on my workout gear, tied my sneakers and I made it to the gym.

I started out feeling sluggish, but then somewhere in between my 2 minute interval on the Stairmaster (level 10!) and bicep curl lunges, I remembered what someone once told me.  I was told that you may not be able to control everything that happens in your life, but you can control what you put in your mouth and how your body looks.  Aren’t those words of wisdom?  At that point, I was like, forget feeling sorry for myself and worrying about things that are out of my control.  My problems and anxieties will still be there when I’m done with this workout but right now is “Me” time.  It was time to push my body to the limits, it was my time to sweat, to get out of my comfort zone and work it.  If only for the next 45 mins of my workout, I felt powerful.  I felt in control and it was awesome.

Am I jumping for joy and feeling euphoric right now? No, I’m not.  Let’s keep it real! I’m back to reality, but I do feel a little bit better.  I feel focused and ready to tackle whatever life throws my way! I feel empowered because I didn’t let life’s annoying problems get in the way of my goals.  So, I’ve said it before (specifically in this blog post —> HERE) but I’ll say it again: Don’t give up on yourself and your goals!!  Making exercise a part of my regular routine really helps me deal with the stresses of life and I’m confident it will help you too.  So, go on a walk today around your neighborhood, pop in that workout DVD, or go to the gym, whatever it is, make some time to take care of you.  Your body will thank you.  xoxo

2013 The Year of the Races

If you asked me last year where I thought I’d be at the end of 2013, this would definitely not be it!! I never dreamed I’d be sharing my personal ups and downs on this blog.  I never imagined I’d sign up, nonetheless finish a half marathon.  Yup, 2013 has been a life changer.  I went from never participating in any sort of running/obstacle races  to running 6 races in one year.  It’s been an amazing journey and I couldn’t have done it without the support from family and friends, especially those who came out and ran alongside me!  I used to dread working out and therefore rarely (read: NEVER) did it.  I only ate “healthy” if I was on a “diet” and let’s be honest, fad diets aren’t healthy.  They don’t last.  Only a change in your lifestyle and your attitude is what makes the changes happen.  The magic is in the commitment, not a pill.

I found that change in me by signing up for all these races/events.  Signing up for these events has kept me on track with my exercise routine and eating habits.  It’s given me a goal to reach and has made all the difference in my attitude towards working out and eating healthy.  I can’t wait to see what 2014 will bring! So far we’re signed up for our second Tough Mudder in April and signing up for Blood, Sweat, and Beers 10K trail run in March.  I really want to run a Ragnar Relay race and as soon as I learn to ride a bike (Yes, you read that right, I don’t know how to ride a bike!!) I want to do a sprint triathalon.

The Color Run 5K really introduced me to event racing.  I had no idea what to expect, from the packet pickup to to the run itself, it was a great first experience!

After Color Run, I did Tough Mudder!  I’d trained hard and really got into fitness during this time. I’ve said it time and time again, Tough Mudder changed my life!

The obstacle course race bug hit me hard and in May, I was ready for more! This time, it was a family affair and my sister, Norma, joined me for the Badass Dash 7K.  The kiddos also participated in their first kid OCR and loved it!

Later in May, my sister and I, along with our friend, Veronica, did the Race for the Cure 5K with the LVAC team.  This is a very important cause for us and our family and we were excited to have a part in raising awareness!

As most of you know, summers in Vegas are HOT! So, summer was spent vacationing and having fun with the kids with our Summer Bucket List.  Towards the end of summer, I began training for the Rock N Roll Half Marathon

I recently blogged about my first half marathon experience, if you missed it, you can check it out HERE! If you want the short version: It was by far one of the hardest and most amazing experiences I’ve had in my life!

Six days after the half marathon, I joined some of my book club girls for the Dirty Dash 5K and my son did the 1 miles Piglet Plunge!  What a way to end a super fun year of races! You can read my review of that race, HERE.

I’d love to hear about your favorite races of 2013 and what you’re planning for 2014! Do you have any suggestions on races I should be looking into? Don’t be shy…

My First Half Marathon | Rock N Roll Las Vegas

I’m going to start off with a warning: There are lots of pictures in this post! lots!

With that being said, I apologize for being MIA for a few days.  Not only was I getting ready for the 13.1 miles, I also had my cousin and her husband (who also ran the half with me) visiting from Texas and we were busy catching up!  It was a blast.  Now, on to the half marathon…

I survived! YAY!! Truth be told, I trained for over 15 weeks, I was pretty sure I’d finish.  What I wasn’t sure of, was how I’d finish.  And I must say, overall, I am happy with the results.  I finished in 2:34:20.  I was aiming for 2:30 but that was ambitious, since I never really trained for speed, just endurance.  I’m also really happy that I ran the entire time.  No stopping, no walking! Slow jogging? You bet ya’!

So, we checked into The Venetian hotel at noon.  Shout out to my sister for the family discount and upgraded room with an awesome view of the strip! We had plenty of time to settle in, have a pre-race snack, change our clothes, and try to relax a bit.  Getting a room on the strip was a great idea.  Huge thanks to Anya from my fb running group for suggesting it 😉 The kids and my parents had a warm place to hang out and wait till we were done running, we didn’t have to travel far afterwards, and we had a great place to celebrate our accomplishment!!

Here we are, ready to head out the door and get our run on!
Here we are, ready to head out the door and get our run on!

My sister and Jason drove us as close as we could get to the pre-race area.  They were able to park in a business center and walk with us the rest of the way.  Big thanks to the security guard for letting us park there, even though we weren’t supposed to!

Runners were really pouring in now and it was getting real!
Runners were really pouring in now and it was getting real!

Once inside the pre-race area we took photos, rested, listened to the live band, and used the port-a-potty twice.  The lines were crazy long!  But, I’m glad we went twice, since we didn’t have to stop along the course.

My cousin had custom shirts made for them, since just a few days before the marathon, they celebrated their 20th anniversary!
My cousin had custom shirts made for them, since just a few days before the marathon, they celebrated their 20th anniversary!

Here I am at my corral ready to go.  There ended up being 36 corrals total, so we were towards the back and although the race officially started at 4:30pm, we didn’t actually get to the start line until 5:15pm or so.  Yup, 45 mins. of walking in a huge group of people towards the start line.  It was pretty crazy and crowded!  Once we got started, it was already dark.  If I do another marathon, I will try to have a closer corral number 😉

I was really looking forward to mile 4 because I knew my family and friends would be there cheering us on.  It was awesome hearing them cheer and giving us high fives.  Next time, I’d like them at miles 9 or 10 because that’s when I started to get tired!! I really could have used the boost then!

Once we passed our family, I felt really pumped!  That lasted a few more miles and up until that point, I was right on target for finishing at my goal time of 2 hrs and 30 mins.  And then…we got to downtown Vegas.  The crowds dwindled, the noise was gone, and the lights were gone.  Those were some dark and tough 4 miles.  Once we headed back towards the strip and I could see we were getting closer to the end, my mind was ready to push harder, but my legs just couldn’t go any faster.  No matter what I did, I couldn’t speed up my pace.  I am so thankful for my cousin and her husband for pushing me to keep going and for giving me tips to so I wouldn’t slow down too much.

Crossing that finish line was an amazing feeling.  I turned around and asked my cousin, “Did that just happen? Is it done? Can I stop running now?!?” I was pretty chocked up. Crying at the finish line was not something I thought I was going to do, but it’s what happened.  I’m blaming it on the adrenaline rush 😉

Celebratory tequila shots with my dad! Because that's what you do when you finish running 13.1 miles!

Dedicating My Miles…

Earlier this year, I came across a blog that was talking about how some runners dedicate their race or or their miles during the race, to family, friends, organizations, etc.  This helps the runners keep their momentum going and to really focus on something or someone to get them through the miles, especially the tougher ones.  This really resonated with me.  I remember reading and thinking that I’d do that if I ever ran a marathon.  And then thinking, “Yea, like I’d ever run a marathon!” Well, here I am, I’m running my first half marathon (baby steps, people) on Sunday.  I’ve had so many people believe in me and support me through this newfound passion and this amazing journey I’m having transforming myself from the inside out.

Well, with out further ado, here’s my list of people I’m dedicating my first half marathon to:

{Miles 1-2} My parents. Without them, I wouldn’t be here.  Literally, yes.  But, my parents have never discouraged me from following my dreams.  They’re always there when I need them.  And, they’ll be watching the kiddos on race day! I love them so much!

{Mile 3}  My friends.  The new ones and the old ones who’ve stuck with me through thick and thin.  The ones who believe in me.  The ones who encourage me to keep going and don’t think I’m crazy for trying new things.  Ok, maybe they think I’m crazy, but they’re rooting for me anyways.  I love you, guys!

{Mile 4} Ashley.  My trainer.  She’s so encouraging and has helped me get stronger by focusing on my individual needs and pushing me to try harder.  She believes in me and I don’t want to let her down.

{Mile 5}  It’s A Messy Life blog readers.  Yes, I know most of these are friends and family, but I’m still happy to have a place to share my experiences with people and motivate others to keep trying to improve and live happy lives.  Thank you for your support  & I look forward to growing my little blog into a fun community to share, uplift, and laugh about our messy lives together!

{Mile 6} My aunts and uncle who passed away too soon and can’t be here cheering me on but I know they would be if they could.  Especially my aunt Norma.  I know she’d be front and center cheering me on from the sidelines.

{Mile 7} My crazy fun and awesome family!  For my cousins who no matter how long we go without seeing each other, when we finally do get together it’s always like we were never apart.  I love that.  I love laughing and being myself around them.  There’s no drama, no comparing, no agendas, it’s family and we’re always there for each other. Thanks, primas 🙂

{Mile 8} My cousin Anel, although she will always be Nelly to me 😉 She is flying out from Texas today to come run my first race with me.  Talk about supportive, huh!  She’s even dragging her husband with us.  She’s been motivating me and training with me via text messages.  Love those sweaty post-running photos she shares with me.  And, even though I say she’s crazy for all those miles she runs (she’s training for a full marathon next month) I really do admire her dedication and secretly wish I could run like her 😉

{Mile 9} My sister, Norma.  She is my bff.  She gets me.  She is the one person who I know will always be there for me.  She has to be.  She’s my sister.  I love her for putting up with me, for always being there for me.  We can lean on each other and stand tall together knowing that we’ll never be alone.

{Miles 10-11} My kiddos, Diego & Elysse.  I want to be a strong female role model for them. I want them to know that they can do anything.  I want to be a good example for them and help them become healthy, active adults.  I want them to be proud of me.

{Mile 12} My husband, Jason.  I’m so grateful for his immense support.  For believing in me wholeheartedly, even when I don’t believe in myself.  Fo never complaining when I need to go on my runs, but rather encouraging me even when I’m grumpy!  Thank you seems so little a phrase for all he does for our family.  I love you, babe.

{Mile 13} This one is all mine.  This one is to prove to myself that I can do it.  I never imagined that I would be running a half marathon.  Never.  Yet here I am.  It’s so amazing to know we all have it in us to make changes for the better.  We can all become the person we are meant to be, even if we didn’t know we had it in us.  It’s there.  It’s just waiting for you to make the first move.

Thanks again everyone for supporting me in this and all I do!  I am so grateful to have so many amazing – awesome – caring – funny – uplifting – loving – people in my life.  xo
